Brooklyn on my mind

I have not been sleeping well the past week. I find my thoughts at night drifting to Brooklyn. I arrive at 9pm Monday, August 31st. How early does Gorilla coffee open I wonder. What are the off-leash hours at Prospect Park again. Which restaurant should I go to for my first dinner back, and my 2nd and my third. What does the OSH look like again. What is my bank card pin number. Where did I pack my socks. Where did I put those scooter keys. Are the food stands still out in RedHook on the weekends. What is weather like in September in Brooklyn, I can’t remember. Have I really been away for only a year. Wait, Wait. Sleep, sleep, sleep. Should I get a cell phone when I get back. Do I still have anyone’s phone numbers. Quincy! Oh I miss him. Where should we go on our walks. How soon can we go hiking. Will I see Nori much. Will he be studying a lot. It will be so wonderful to hug him. We can talk without worrying that the internet will cut out. Oh Wait. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep.  I wonder what it’s like to be in the US with Obama as president. I’m so happy I don’t need to look for a job when I get back. ……Bing, bing, bing. 6:30. Time to get up. Oh yea, I’m still on the border. I make my tea, do some work on my computer, then cycle to the clinic. I’ll think of you tonight, Brooklyn.

I’m sure going back to Brooklyn will be like riding a bike. All of it will come back in 2-3 days, and you’ll think that your time in Thailand as a dream. Life in the US under Obama is wonderful! The roads are paved with thoughtful, eloquent speeches and hopeful progress.
